What to watch? ~ 2015 movies: August

I listed so many movies each month but ironically I can only get to watch so few of them. Hopefully I can watch more movies in the coming months. So which movies that will be released in August that caught my interest the most? Scroll down to find out.

1) Dark Places

I actually already watched this movie, it was released in July (or was it June?) in Malaysia. Dark Places is based on the novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn (the same author of Gone Girl for those of you who don't know) and tell the story of Libby Day as she tries to investigate what exactly happened on that fateful night 25 years ago when her family was killed which had also resulted in her older brother being put behind bars based on her testimonial statement. Did he really killed them? Or was it someone else and she was traumatized that made her remembered it wrongly? I really like the movie and the murder mystery that was featured in it. If you like murder-mystery-drama type of film, then you would probably like this movie too. Directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner and starred Charlize Theron, Tye Sheridan, Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult, Chloe Grace Moretz, Corey Stoll and Shannon Kook, Dark Places would be released in the US on August 7, 2015.

2) Fantastic Four

I feel so bad to see this movie received so much hate even before people get to actually see the final product. I seriously hope that this general hate won't affect it's box office performance. I kind of understand where the hate is coming from but at the same time the feedback are so overwhelmingly negative that it made me pity the crew that had work hard to produce this film. The trailers look pretty good and interesting so I'm hoping for the best for Fantastic Four. The movie could turn out to be bad but I think we should all save our judgement until the movie is release and when we actually see it, right? Directed by Josh Trank (the director of 2012 film, Chronicle) and starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell and Reg E. Cathey, this Fantastic Four reboot would be released in cinemas on August 7, 2015.

3) The Gift

This film will be the directorial debut for Joel Edgerton. The trailer looks interesting, which is about a couple's life that had turned upside down after they met the husband's acquaintance from high school. The mystery aspect of the story really get me intrigued, and I'm curious to know what really happened between the husband and his high school friend. It's a small scale type of film so I hope the story is good to keep the audiences entertain. Starring Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall and Joel Edgerton, The Gift is scheduled to open in cinemas on August 7, 2015.

4) The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

To be honest, I feel like I'm still not convinced about this film. From the trailers that I've seen, it does look like a fun movie, but I think I still need to watch more footage before I decide whether I should watch this in the cinema or not. If you guys are wondering what "U.N.C.L.E." stands for, it stands for "United Network Command for Law and Enforcement". Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, the movie is about two agents who team up in an effort to stop a criminal organization...so basically it's a spy movie. We already have Spy with Melissa McCarthy and Kingsman the Secret Service, will The Man from U.N.C.L.E. be as well-received as those two films? Directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Jared Harris, Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Debicki, the film will be released in cinemas on August 14, 2015.

5) American Ultra

I almost missed this film because from the title I thought it was a movie about a music band or something (I'm not even sure why I think that) but luckily I watched the trailer anyway after been ignoring it for awhile and guess what? It looks like a fun, entertaining and quirky film, not to mention the action sequences look pretty awesome too. The combination of Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg in an action/comedy film might sound a little weird but it looks pretty amazing so far, and Topher Grace looks great as well. Also starred John Leguizamo, Connie Britton, Bill Pullman and Walton Goggins, American Ultra is expected to be released on August 21, 2015.

6) Hitman: Agent 47

There are not many films based on video games nowadays so I'm glad we're getting this film this month. Hitman: Agent 47 is based from the popular Hitman video game series. There was already a film adaptation released back in 2007 but it was not critically acclaimed, it did managed to fork in quite a sum of money at the box-office though. From the trailers, this reboot look pretty solid so I hope it can deliver at the box-office. Although films like this are usually not loved by film critics, I do hope that at least it will be received better than its predecessor. Starring Rupert Friend (who looked pretty well cast as the lead protagonist I might say), Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Helena Pieske, Ciaran Hinds and Thomas Kretschmann, this film which is directed by Aleksander Bach will be released in cinemas on August 21, 2015.

7) Sinister 2

I haven't watch the first movie but I really want to watch this one because the trailer looks pretty good. From the synopsis I read, the plot seems to have connections to the first movie. I really hope I could still understand the story eventhough I didn't watch the first one. Sinister 2 is directed by Ciaran Foy and starred James Ransone, Shannyn Sossamon, Robert Daniel Sloan and Dartanian Sloan. The film is expected to be released in cinemas on August 21, 2015. The first film made $88 million at the box-office against a $3 million budget - quite an awesome return! Could the sequel be as successful as the original film?

8) Regression

Another horror movie that will be released in August is Regression, expecting to meet audiences in cinemas starting August 28, 2015. The film starred Ethan Hawke, Emma Watson, David Dencik and David Thewlis, and directed by Alejandro Amenabar, the same director of 2001's The Others. I love The Others! If you haven't watch that movie, you probably would want to try it, it's a very good and sophisticated horror movie starring Nicole Kidman. Now back to Regression, the promotional poster seems to focus on Emma Watson but to be honest I don't see her featured a lot in the trailers so I'm not sure how big of a role will she be playing in the movie. The thing that excite me the most though about this film is the mystery and supernatural element behind it. I hope the story would be good.

That's all for August which seems to be quite full with interesting movies as the summer movie season comes to an end. Any of these movies caught your interest? Or did I missed any of the movies that you're looking forward to?
