May was a great month for movies as the summer movie season officially kicked-off with films like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Pitch Perfect 2 banking in lots of money at the box office, while others like Mad Max: Fury Road was critically acclaimed with its creative choices. The summer movie season continued on as more blockbuster movies are scheduled to be released. Below are some of the movies coming out in June that excite me the most.
1) Insidious: Chapter 3
I'm quite surprised when I found out that they were doing a third movie for this franchise. I thought the second movie was nice but it was not as memorable as the first one. But still, I like it a lot and it was a fun movie to watch, so I'm totally looking forward to this next installment. The focus now shifted to a new family who were haunted by something supernatural, so I don't think we would see Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson in this movie. Lin Shaye, Leigh Whannell and Angus Sampson would be back though, reprising their roles as the ghost/supernatural experts that will do all they can to help this poor family. Also starred Stefanie Scott and Dermot Mulroney, this movie will not be directed by James Wan who directed the previous two films, instead it will be directed by Leigh Whannell in his directorial debut (he is also the writer of all three films). Insidious: Chapter 3 will be released in cinemas on June 5, 2015.
2) Spy
Spy had actually been released here in Malaysia in May, but it is only scheduled to be released in US on June 5, 2015. It was released on the same weekend as Tomorrowland, whereas the remake of Poltergeist, which was released against Tomorrowland in the US, would only be released here in Malaysia in July. Weird scheduling, huh? The movie is about a desk-bound CIA analyst who had never really been in field for a mission before, goes undercover to investigate in the dangerous world of arms dealer when her partner goes missing. I haven't watch Spy yet but I'm really tempted to thanks to its hilarious trailers. I don't only think Melissa McCarthy looks funny in the movie, but Rose Byrne, Jason Statham and Jude Law were all look funny in it. This might actually be a very good and fun movie to watch. Directed by Paul Feig (he also directed Bridesmaids and The Heat), Spy also starred Miranda Hart, Bobby Cannavale and Allison Janney.
3) Jurassic World
This fourth movie in the popular franchise had long been in development, with multiple changes in its script, but now it's finally ready for audiences. After so many years, could the movie still attract old and new audiences to the cinemas? I believe the brand is still strong, so I foresee that this movie will become a big hit at the box-office, but I'm not sure how big though. With so many big movies coming out, the competition is stiff, so we'll see how this movie will perform. It was reported that Jurassic World is being set as the beginning of a new trilogy. That would be quite awesome but this movie needs to make money first and if it does, expect Universal Pictures to make that trilogy a reality. Starring Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Omar Sy, B. D. Wong and Irrfan Khan alongside a bunch of super-big dinosaurs, Jurassic World would open its gate to audiences on June 12, 2015.
4) Inside Out
Oh, I just can't wait for this movie! I read that the film were received quite well when it was screened at CinemaCon and Cannes Film Festival so I'm pretty sure Pixar would have another hit in their hands. This would be the first out of two movies that Pixar would be releasing this year after skipping 2014 from releasing any new movie. The other film, The Good Dinosaur, is scheduled to be released in November 2015. Inside Out is set in a mind of a young girl with her emotions; Joy, Fear, Disgust, Anger and Sadness, trying to lead the girl's life as she's trying to adjust living in a new town after having to move with her parents. The movie is directed by Pete Docter, the man who also directed Up and Monsters, Inc. With voice cast which include Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, Mindy Kaling and Kaitlyn Dias, the movie will be released in cinemas on June 19, 2015.
The films I listed for June are not as many as the one I listed in May but still it's going to be quite an exciting month, isn't it? We still have another few months to go with more summer blockbuster movies scheduled to be released. So which movie do you think would make a big splash at the cinemas in June?
