My 10 Favourite Moments from 2014 Movies

Okay, so I know we're already into February 2015 and 2014 movies are something of the past but since I have spent my time on this list, I thought why not just released it anyway. I might be stretching this just a tiny bit but if you could just bare with me for just one more post regarding 2014 movies, I would be very grateful.

So here goes, my simple list of 10 favourite moments from 2014 movies that I've watched in no particular order.

Oh, I almost forgot! Before that, let me remind you that since these moments/scenes are directly dig into the plot of the movies, so there will be spoilers all over this list. If you want to avoid spoilers for any of 2014 movies that you haven't watch, please considered yourself warned!

Now let's begin. :-)

1. Interstellar

Scene:
When Cooper watch the recording from his son and daughter 23 years later aboard the spacecraft after he was back from Miller's planet.

Comment:
The passing of time had affected the characters a lot, and it's almost being cruel to them. One of the powerful scene in the movie that touched my heart, and it's one of those moment where the movie remind you that it was not just a sci-fi movie but also a beautiful drama about human relationships.

2. Oculus

Scene:
The ending scene which alternates between the past and the current situation of the siblings.

Comment:
I love the ending to this movie. It just showed to us how things haven't changed, and how the evil entity that resided in that antique mirror won yet again against the brother and sister team-up. They should have just left the mirror alone and should have never tried to "defeat" it. I'm so sad for them.

3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Scene:
Captain America + Black Widow vs Winter Soldier + Hydra

Comment:
It is one of the best fight scene that I've watched from movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and interestingly the fight is a lot more practical and less on the CGI imagery, which is fascinating considering how these superhero movies usually relies on power sets that used visual effects to portray them on the silver screen. It's a fun scene and proved that you don't necessarily need fancy CGI for powerful superhero fight scenes.

4. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Scene:
Reconciliation of Caesar and his son, Blue Eyes, at Caesar previous human home and when his son spoke for the first time.

Comment:
To be honest, I don't quite recall if that is truly the first moment Blue Eyes spoke, but it was an emotional scene nevertheless. It's heart-breaking to see Blue Eyes finally understand the values that his father trying to teach him, and that he was wrong about Koba. That Koba, my god, such a heartless, twisted ape. Although, being tortured by human before, I kind of understand where his hatred to human came from. But still, I can't believe he killed Ash!

5. The Lego Movie

Scene:
The live-action sequence featuring Will Ferrell.

Comment:
The scene which occurred near the end of the movie was unexpected but it was a nice surprise. I like it a lot and it is definitely one of those rare moment where the scene changed your whole perspective of a movie, making it more meaningful and relatable than it was before.

6. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Scene:
The death of Gwen Stacy.

Comment:
While I love the movie franchise, I must admit that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was not as entertaining as the other movies in the franchise. But I love this scene a lot! The sequence was as tragic as it was beautiful. Emma Stone looked very mesmerizing in this scene, and Andrew Garfield was emotionally good too. A very well-done scene.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy

Scene:
Star Lord + Gamora + Rocket Raccoon + Groot chase/fight scene on Xandar.

Comment:
This scene was a fun and entertaining scene. The setting was nice too. I believe this is the first time the four met with each other, and to see them fight and chasing each other was hilarious. Funny how things work out between all of them in the end.

8. How to Train Your Dragon 2

Scene:
Stoick's death and the separation of Hiccup and Toothless.

Comment:
It's tragic how Hiccup's trusted dragon, Toothless, had killed his own father, Stoick. Granted, Toothless had been hypnotized by the giant dragon, the Bewilderbeast, but it would still feel like a betrayal to Hiccup, and that must have hurt his heart. Such a tragic incident.

9. The Signal

Scene:
Revealing of Nic's alien legs.

Comment:
Being a low-budget movie, I find the special effects for this movie to be quite impressive, and the revealing of Nic's alien legs is especially surprising and fascinating for me. It was unexpected and I was quite shocked when it was first revealed. But I like the surprise, it was a very cool scene indeed.

10. Edge of Tomorrow

Scene:
Cage and Vrataski having coffee in an abandoned house.

Comment:
For Vrataski and the audience, it was the first time the characters arrived at the house. Well, if my memory served me right, it was their first scene at the house, apologies if I'm wrong though. So, assuming I was not wrong, to be revealed by Cage that this moment had happened many, many, MANY times before, and that this is as far as Vrataski goes before being killed, was truly a shocking and heart-breaking news to me. It was sad to learn such things, and I sympathized for both characters, especially Cage who had to go through this over and over again, and everytime it still ended up the same with him failing to save Vrataski. It seems like a simple scene, but the emotional weight that it brings is the reason why this scene captured my heart.

So that's all for my 10 favourite moments from 2014 movies. Did I shared any of your favourite scenes as well? Or do you think I've missed some of the great moments in movies that I had watched? Or maybe those that I haven't watch?
